Every summer for the past 15 years, the Moorzitz family has come to the Inn for their 3 generations family reunion. Their days are filled lounging at the poolside and taking in a different local attraction each day.
In the evening the family gathers on the front porch for cocktails and to catch up on everyone’s adventures for the day. Neal, the Echo Lake Inn night innkeeper, is always there to take care of whatever they need.
One warm summer’s day the Moorzitz’s girls, actual wonderful young women, gathered in the bar and requested that Neal, our mix-meister, make them a refreshing cocktail – “Something like a Tom Collins but more refreshing”.
It had been a while since Neal had made a ‘Tom Collins’, so he had to look up the recipe in the bartender’s guide. Not liking what he had found, he decided instead to put his ‘mixology’ to work! After some very enjoyable ‘trial and error’ attempts with the Moorzitz girls doing the tasting, here is the refreshing recipe that he created :
The Moorzitz Tom Collins
2 tsp. sugar
1 Lemon Wedge
1.5 oz Vodka
1 oz Crème de Cassis
In a Collins glass muddle the sugar and lemon. Add Vodka. Shake to dissolve sugar. Fill glass with ice. Fill half the glass with sour mix and then add the Crème de Cassis. Fill remainder of glass with Soda Water. Garnish with lime.
You should try one!
Stay well ~ Laurence
